GAME RULES

🏀 The concept

The wheel draws 2 to 4 NBA franchises. Your job: find a player who played for all of these teams during his career.

Type his name in the search bar — autocomplete helps you find him fast.

✅ Valid answers

Our database is built on official regular season and playoff games. For a player to be linked to a franchise, he must have played at least one official game in that team's jersey.

Simply signing a contract or being announced in a trade is not enough — the player must have actually taken the court in competition. Watch out for recent trades (outside our latest update) or off-season moves: a player may have left one city without yet having played for his new team.

🎯 Difficulty levels

The more franchises drawn, the tougher the challenge — but the bigger the reward.
2 franchises · 1 pt
3 franchises · 3 pts
4 franchises · 5 pts

⏱️ Timer and AND1 bonus

Each round is timed. Answer correctly within the first 3 seconds (2 franchises) or the first 5 seconds (3 or 4 franchises) of the clock, and you score an AND1 bonus (+1 point) — just like drawing the foul on the way to the basket!

🎮 Game modes

Training — Play at your own pace, pick your number of rounds, zero pressure.

Endless Challenge — Climb through ever-harder tiers with no limit. The game keeps going as long as you answer correctly: go as high as you can. You play freely, no username needed — and at the end, you can pick a username to post your score to the world leaderboard if you want.

Multiplayer — Face your friends locally, turn by turn, up to 10 players on the same device.

🏆 Career grades

In the Endless Challenge, every tier you clear moves you up a grade ladder inspired by an NBA career: Prospect → Rookie → Role Player → Sixth Man → Starter → Franchise Player → All-Star → All-NBA → MVP → Hall of Famer, then the ultimate peak: G.O.A.T. (and beyond, a level that climbs endlessly).

Your grade follows you everywhere: on your player card, in level-up popups, and on the leaderboards. In the Daily Challenge it shows next to your username — all the sweeter when a small grade tops a big one on the day's game! No grade yet? Jump into the Endless Challenge to earn yours.

📅 The Daily Challenge

The flagship mode of Hardwood Links. Every day at midnight UTC, 10 fresh combos — the same for every player worldwide (8 PM ET / 5 PM PT).

How it works:
  • 10 rounds: 4 easy (2 franchises), 3 medium (3 franchises), 3 hard (4 franchises)
  • One try per round — no second chance
  • Play the rounds in any order you like
  • Classic scoring: 1 / 3 / 5 points, plus the AND1 bonus

🔥 Streak: play every day to build your consecutive-day streak. It's saved with your username and PIN — pick it back up on any device by logging in.

🏅 Leaderboard: a daily leaderboard reset every midnight, plus yesterday's visible for 24h. Ties are broken by number of correct answers, then by streak. No time advantage — play at your own pace.

One game per day — so aim true!

📍 Franchise relocations

Some teams relocated throughout NBA history. A player who played for the old franchise is automatically linked to the new city:
  • Vancouver Grizzlies → Memphis Grizzlies (2001)
  • Seattle SuperSonics → Oklahoma City Thunder (2008)
  • New Jersey Nets → Brooklyn Nets (2012)
  • New Orleans Hornets → New Orleans Pelicans (2013)

🏅 The leaderboard

Endless Challenge — you play anonymously, then claim your leaderboard spot by choosing a username. Your best score is kept (one record per username), with a world leaderboard showing your reached level in colour.

Daily Challenge — a daily leaderboard reset every midnight, plus yesterday's. Your username + PIN also save your consecutive-day streak.

🔄 Data updates

The player and stats database is updated at key moments of the NBA season: at the start of the season, after free agency and the trade deadline, and at season's end.

Check the last update date shown on the home screen — a very recent trade or signing might not be reflected yet. Only officially played games count in our database: a signing or trade in progress is not enough.
